Photo by Brennan JohnsonAndrew Guarente is an artist and printmaker based in Portland, Oregon. Through the act of refinement, his work translates the intimate physical and mental states one goes through while transitioning. Bodies interlaced with gender affirming objects and garments are used as a common visual language across mediums to display the personal experience of dysphoria. Against an ever-changing depiction of the transgender community, he documents these objects as a means of preserving an aspect of queer history. Guarente received his BFA from the University of Central Florida in Studio Art with a focus on printmaking. He has over three years of experience in fine art printmaking through Flying Horse Editions and his recent apprenticeship at Mullowney Printing Company.
